Well, A Song of Ice and Fire is a convenient contrast in the same genre. Despite taking place in a more oppressively patriarchal world, it doesn't have the same inane battle-of-the-sexes motif going on.

Among other stuff I've read recently, The Expanse and Charles Stross' books come off well, while David Eddings' stuff is eye-roll-inducing in a similar way to Robert Jordan's.
