The BAD ones basically are. In some respects, I wouldn't be surprised if some of those books were transcribed/heavily edited outcomes from D&D playthrough sessions held by certain (authorial-inclined) DM's. The better ones just use it as a setting where the RPG is simply background for the real story. [NT]
